Cupping…

Cupping is a modality that uses a style of cup to pull the tissue away from the body. There are a number of different kinds of cupping, ranging from fire cupping, silicon, bamboo or the more modern suction gun. All of which create a vacuum, drawing tissue and blood inside the cups. It can be used to release scar tissue and fascial adhesions, reduce inflammation, trigger points, stress and increase mobility, range of motion, and blood flow to the area we’re working on.

Cupping has been around for centuries, with dates all the way back to ancient Egypt, Chinese and Middle Eastern cultures. “One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C.”

In my sessions I use silicone cups for ease of use. They are wonderful for clients looking for deeper work, or who don’t get everything they want out of manual massage work. Since the cups pull tissue up and away from the body it’s a different approach to relieving tension and stress.
